Spellings and Definitions


Hungry: Feeling a need or desire to eat food.

I am hungry as I have not eaten any breakfast.

 

Plough: A farming tool having one or more heavy blades to break the soil and cut a furrow prior to sowing.

The farmer ploughs the fields.

 

Inferior: Inferior is a lower status, rank or priority.

You are inferior to me.

 

Passenger: A traveller riding in a vehicle who is not operating it.

I have got three passengers in my car.

 

Practical: Concerned with actual use or practice. Having or put to a practical purpose or use.

That isn’t a practical job.

 

Secretary: An assistant who handles correspondence and clerical work for a boss or an organization.

Mrs Jones is a secretary in our school.

 

Sufficient: A quantity that can fulfil a need or requirement but without being abundant.

My teacher said my maths homework was sufficient.

 

Aerial: An electrical device that sends or receives radio or television signals.

We need to buy a new TV aerial as our old one is broke.

 

Committee: A special group delegated to consider some matters.

Coca cola has a committee.

William Shakespeare


William Shakespeare is said by many to be the greatest dramatist of all time and is one of the most famous actors/writers in the world. William Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon and his birthday is celebrated on April 23rd but his real birthday is unknown.


William’s family consists of his farther John Shakespeare, his mother Mary Arden, his sister Joan, another sister called Margret, a brother called Gilbert, another sister also called Joan, his  sister Anne, his brother Richard and finally his other brother Edmund. William had 4 sisters and 3 brothers he was the first boy but third child born however his 2 sisters who came before him died.

William’s career in drama started between 1585 and 1592 when William became a successful actor and writer. William’s writing is now some of the most well known literature ever. One of his most popular ones is Hamlet because of the terrible tragedy of the murder of his farther and incest between his uncle and mother.

Most of William’s first plays where presented in the Globe theatre which was built in 1576 and founded by James Burbage but William was the one who made it famous. The Globe theatre was a hexagonal shaped structure with an inner court about 55 feet across. It was also three stories high and had no roof.

William wrote about 37 plays, 154 sonnets and 2 long poems. This made William a very wealthy man because in the 15/1600 plays were big and there was a lot of money to be made.



When William died on April 23 1616 possibly his birthday at the age of 52 he left the world knowing he was possibly one of the world’s greatest writers/actors.
