My review on Disney's Jungle Book

***** 5 out of 5 stars.         Family, Adventure, Musical

The Plot

Disney's Jungle Book is one of the family favourites that for over 40 years has entertained thousands of people bring joy and happiness to children and adults alike. This heart-warming tale of an abandoned baby called Mowgli who is raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle. Only to find out that he has to leave the wolf pack he had grown up with and learnt so much from to return to human civilization or the conniving and evil tiger Shere Khan is going to hunt him down. This family friendly film is about the adventures Mowgli has when he meets a kind yet idiotic bear called Baloo and a thoughtful yet stubborn panther called Bagheera. As well as these new found friends Mowgli also encounters some scary (Shere Khan the tiger) , crazy (King Louie the orang-utan) , sinister (Kaa the snake) and grumpy characters (Col Hathi the elephant). This is one of the films that everyone should see; it’s an instant Disney classic.

The Actors

With the skilful acting of Phil Harris (Baloo the bear), Sebastian Cabot (Bagheera the panther), Bruce Reitherman (Mowgli the man cub), George Sanders (Shere Khan the tiger), Louis Prima (King Louie the orang-utan), Sterling Holloway (Kara the snake) and J. Pat O`Malley (Col Hath I the elephant) jungle book is probably one of the most amazing, hilarious and well scripted movie of its time.

Did you know?

Disney's Jungle Book is based on the book The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.

This being Walt Disney's final film it has that special and magical touch only Walt could add to these films that he loved and was so passionate about.

As well as being one of the funniest and most entertaining films of its time it is also witty because the names of the characters are the Hindu translation for the animals for instants Baloo means bear, Shere Khan means tiger king and Bagheera means panther.

The book the film was based was a series of seven short stories written by Rudyard Kipling based primarily around the jungles of India in which he travelled due to his wealth and these stories where written in 1894.

The animal representation in this story can be likened to a human society with the likes of Bagheera being a parent knowing what's right and caring for Mowgli, Baloo being a brother or close friend being slightly mischievous but also always being there for Mowgli, The monkeys and apes can be represented as the lawless and rule breakers and Col Hath I is a sort of enforcer of the law.

My overview

Overall I think Disney's Jungle Book is the best video adaptation on the book The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, it is number one out of all the other films and TV series with its classical musical numbers and its timeless morals about friendship, trust and being morally correct.
